Prosecutors have asked for a heavy sentence for a 20-year-old man who was put on trial for hitting and killing a street cleaner after refusing to be inspected by the police while driving under the influence of alcohol.
At the final hearing held at the Cheonan Branch of the Daejeon District Court, the prosecution asked the court to sentence A to 12 years in prison.
A was indicted on charges of driving away from an intersection in Oryong-dong, Cheonan-si, Chungcheongnam-do, at around 1 a.m. on August 7, refusing to be inspected by the police who were dispatched after receiving a report of suspected drunk driving and killing a street cleaner in his 30s.
In court, Mr. A claimed that the police had not accepted the request for a blood measurement at the time, and the police countered that they had not heard the intention to request a blood measurement.
