Unlike exports, which continue to march positively, domestic demand has begun a large-scale discount competition centered on retailers amid the ongoing slump.

Korean beef and snow crab, which were difficult to eat at high prices, were sold at half the price, attracting a large number of consumers.

Reporter Park Ki-wan came to the scene.

Consumers who dragged shopping carts lined up in front of the Korean beef store in large supermarkets.

[Large supermarket in Yongsan-gu: There's a waiting line for Korean beef. There's a waiting line for Korean beef over here.]

This is because you can buy Korean beef at a high price and at a half price, which was usually difficult to taste.

Essential food items such as rice, eggs, and ramen have also been on a large discount.

[Baeyeonhyang / Seoul Seobinggo-dong: Sounds good. I hope we can do it more often. We can eat cheaply. I just want to do it once a month. Not once a year....]

We have included discount items from snow crab to Korean beef and eggs.

If it's in the original price range, it's about 190,000 won, which is a burdensome price to buy.

However, if the discount price is applied, it is less than 100,000 won, so the faces of consumers who are tired of high prices have been bright for the first time in a long time.

Another supermarket has also launched a discount event, selling Korean beef and king crab at half the price.

On top of that, we have started to attract consumers by offering processed foods and household goods at up to 70% cheaper prices.

[Kim Sung-woong / Deputy Manager of hypermarkets: To reduce the burden of customers' shopping bags due to high prices, we prepared more than twice as much as the previous event and the discount rate will be up to 70%]

It's not just a large supermarket.

Domestic e-commerce companies such as 11th Street, Gmarket, and Coupang also participated in the 'November Distribution Exhibition' by planning up to 70% discount events.

A week before the opening of the "Korea Sale Festa," which will involve 2,600 companies led by the government, pre-event has also begun.

Major conglomerates such as Hyundai Motor, Kia, Samsung, and LG can participate to buy cars and electronics that they have been eyeing for at a low price.

Even the government is holding a large-scale discount exhibition to turn back the attention of consumers who are focused on Black Friday in the U.S. and the Chinese Gwanggun Festival in November.

It is also meaningful to stand up to the low-cost offensive of Chinese companies together.

It is expected not only to boost domestic demand but also to have a reverse direct purchase effect overseas, but some point out that fundamental measures are needed to capture consumers.

[Yeo Jun-sang/Professor of business administration at Dongguk University] Of course, cheap products are good, but discounts should be added as good items of high-quality products are discovered, but I think it will produce a marketing effect in the long run.]

In November, which emerged as a new part of the retail price, large-scale discount events are expected to ease the burden on consumers who have hesitated to open their wallets amid high prices and economic recession.
