Qatar "Stop ceasefire arbitration...Resume if the parties show their will"

Qatar has denied media reports that it has decided to stop arbitrating negotiations between Israel and Palestinian militant Hamas, although it has suspended them.

Qatar's efforts to mediate between Hamas and Israel are currently suspended, Qatar's foreign ministry said in a statement on the 9th local time, adding that it had notified the parties that it would suspend mediation efforts if no agreement was reached in the last negotiations 10 days ago.

"If the parties show willingness and seriousness to end the brutal war, we will resume efforts with our partners," Qatar said, adding that reports of Qatar withdrawing from mediation of a ceasefire in Gaza were inaccurate.

Earlier, foreign media reported that Qatar had informed the parties that it would no longer mediate the negotiations, and that the Hamas political office in Doha, Qatar, had called for its withdrawal, saying it was "no longer fit for purpose."

Qatar's foreign ministry said reports of Hamas deportations were also untrue, adding: "The main purpose of Qatar's office is a channel of communication between the parties and has contributed to achieving a temporary ceasefire at previous stages."

Hamas also denied that it had been informed to leave Qatar.

Negotiations over a ceasefire and hostage release brokered by the United States, Qatar and Egypt have been stalled in recent months.
