A famous Russian chef who was critical of the war in Ukraine has been found dead in Serbia.

Famous chef Alexei Jimin (52) was found dead in a hotel room in Belgrade, the Serbian capital, on the 12th, according to AFP and BBC on the 13th local time.

He, who runs a restaurant called "Jima" in London, England, was visiting Belgrade to promote his new book, "Anglomania."

Belgrade prosecutors said the room was locked inside and that an autopsy would be carried out, although there was no doubt about the death. The specific cause of death is unknown.

Amid a series of questions from Russian anti-Putin figures abroad, it was pointed out that Jimin's death was also doubtful as Serbia maintains close ties with Russia, a traditional ally.

Jimin, who was born in Russia in 1971 and ran several restaurants in Moscow, left Russia for Britain after publicly criticizing Russia's invasion of Ukraine's Crimea in 2014.

In February 2022, when Russia invaded Ukraine, it was criticized on social media (SNS). In May of that year, he told the BBC that his London-based restaurant was directly hit by cancellations of reservations and threatening phone calls in the early days of the invasion of Ukraine.
