'60 Years of Friendship' Expansion of Korea-Liberia Development Cooperation...Signing a memorandum of understanding for cooperation

2024.11.13 AM 10:58
The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) said it will strengthen support for the development of African Liberian countries.

To this end, KOICA signed a memorandum of understanding with the Liberian Ministry of Finance and Development and Planning in Monrovia, the capital of Liberia, on the 11th to expand development cooperation.

The plan is to strengthen the cooperative relationship between the two countries by inviting talented people from Liberia in developing countries to expand global training programs to share our development experiences and technologies.

KOICA said it will gradually pursue training in the agricultural sector next year and in the digital government sector from 2026.

In addition, we plan to expand the number of people selected, including Liberia, in the new target countries for master's and doctorate training, and strengthen candidate screening and consulting.

With the signing of the memorandum of understanding, Son Sung-il, head of the Nigerian office in Koika, explained that he will focus on discovering new projects for sustainable development in Liberia with the aim of implementing measures to strengthen cooperation discussed at the summit of the two countries in June.

Liberia, located in midwestern Africa, suffered from a long civil war until 2003, destroying much of its infrastructure and suffering from a humanitarian crisis.

After the first democratic election in 2005 and a peaceful regime change last year, it has succeeded in democratic transformation and is stabilizing, but economic difficulties caused by dictatorship and civil war in the past remain.

Liberia has a relationship of donating 10 tons of rubber to our country as a humanitarian measure during the Korean War.
