President Yoon Suk Yeol held a Korea-China summit with President Xi Jinping for the first time in two years and emphasized cooperation in response to North Korea's provocations and military cooperation between Russia and North Korea.

President Yoon, who visited Peru to attend the APEC summit, had a summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping at 1:06 a.m. today (16th) and 11:06 a.m. local time on the 15th for 29 minutes.President Yun

said in his opening remarks that he hoped that South Korea and China would cooperate in promoting stability and peace in the region in response to North Korea's successive provocations, the war in Ukraine, and military cooperation between Russia and North Korea.

President Xi responded by saying that the two countries should stick to the initial intention of diplomatic relations and keep the direction of good friendship, and that they will play more roles for regional peace and stability.

In a briefing after the meeting, Kim Tae-hyo, the first deputy director of the National Security Office, said President Yoon called for China's constructive role in North Korea's continued military provocations and military cooperation with Russia at the meeting, and Xi said China also did not want tensions on the Korean Peninsula.

An official from the presidential office said that President Xi invited President Yoon to visit China first, and President Yoon also invited President Xi to visit Korea, especially the Gyeongju APEC meeting, which will take place around next fall, and both leaders were grateful for the invitation.

The meeting between the two leaders came about two years after the first meeting in November 2022 in the wake of the G20 summit in Indonesia.
