The leaders of the U.S. and China, who met at the APEC summit in Peru, had a war of nerves two months later over the situation on the Korean Peninsula, where uncertainty grew due to the U.S. regime change and North Korea's dispatch of troops to Russia.
The White House says President Biden condemned North Korea's dispatch to Russia, stressing that China's influence on North Korea and Russia should be used to prevent the spread of clashes through additional North Korean troops.
President Biden also pointed out that military cooperation between North Korea and Russia, which has been deepened by the dispatch of North Korea, is a very dangerous development and increases the possibility of North Korea's direct provocations, missile launches, and a seventh nuclear test.
In response, Xi said China would not allow clashes and chaos on the Korean Peninsula and would not sit idly by and watch China's strategic security and core interests threatened, Chinese CCTV said.
Meanwhile, the White House said the two leaders identified the need to maintain human control over decisions to use nuclear weapons and stressed the need to develop artificial intelligence technologies in a prudent and responsible manner in the military sector.
This is the third face-to-face summit between President Biden and President Xi, and a year after meeting in San Francisco last November.
The meeting is expected to be the last summit between President Biden and President Xi as Trump's inauguration is scheduled for January 20 next year.
