The Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs said Kim Oh-bok, the mother of the late Sergeant Seo Jeong-woo, has been appointed as the chairman of the Veterans Review Committee, which plays a role in recognizing veterans and judging different grades.
Mrs. Kim Oh-bok was a former principal of Daeseong Girls' High School in Gwangju, and this is the first time a veteran family has been appointed as the chairman of the Veterans Review Committee, according to the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs.
The Veterans Review Committee is a consensus-based organization belonging to the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs that deliberates on whether to recognize people of national merit, including independence fighters, and those eligible for veterans' compensation.
Kim Oh-bok, the new chairman of the committee, said he feels a great sense of responsibility as the chairman of the Veterans Affairs Review Committee, stressing that he will do his best to establish a screening system that increases the credibility of those subject to the Veterans Review by carefully examining it from the public's perspective.
