The Korea Communications Standards Commission has protested the budget cuts being pushed by the National Assembly, saying that essential functions such as various deliberations and monitoring may be paralyzed.
The Korea Communications Standards Commission was briefed by the Secretariat at the plenary session today (18th) on the current status of next year's budget deliberations being conducted by the National Assembly's Science, Technology, Information, Broadcasting and Communications Committee.
The Secretariat reported that next year's Korea Communications Standards Commission budget submitted to the government was worth 36.7 billion won, but during the parliamentary budget review process, ordinary expenses and broadcasting activities were cut by 50 percent, and labor and telecommunications costs were cut by 10 percent.
He explained that if the budget cut is confirmed, not only will the broadcasting deliberation activity stop, but the telecommunications deliberation, which requires online illegal information monitoring, will not function properly.
Chairman Ryu Hee-rim stressed that he will do his best to secure the budget as the Korea Communications Standards Commission also acts as a watchman to protect the people from illegal harmful content.
