Contaminated carrots and mini carrots were distributed through large grocery stores in 18 U.S. states, with one person killed and at least 39 people receiving hospital treatment.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said some packaged carrots and mini carrots distributed by "Grim Way Farms" through grocery store chains such as Walmart, Target, Whole Foods and Trader Joe's were contaminated with e-Collai.
The center said it is unlikely that the carrots in question are currently in circulation, and urged people to discard what is stored at home.
Grim Way Farms has started a voluntary recall of regular carrots with a shelf life set from Aug. 14 to Oct. 23 and mini carrots set from Sept. 11 to Nov. 12.
