Domestic games proved their global competitiveness by winning major categories at "Google Play Game 2024," hosted by Google Play.
Google Play announced on the 19th that it has announced the "Winner Award 2024 that Shines This Year."
"Cookie Run: The Tower of Adventure," presented by Debcisters, was selected as the "2024 Best Game of the Year" in recognition of its original game, character and popular fun. The game also won the top prize in the PC Game of the Year category in 82 countries, including South Korea. The result is based on platform scalability, sensuous graphics, and in-depth gameability that cross mobile and PC.
Netmarble's blockbuster MMORPG "Raven 2" also won the top prize in the "Game That Shined This Year" multi-device category. Launched in May this year, the game provided the best playing environment for users with cross-platform support that encompasses mobile and PC. In particular, PC platform sales accounted for more than half of the sales, and it was outstanding that it achieved even performance on the two platforms.
Subsequently, Netmarble also won the top prize in the Game Story category, in which "I'm the Only One Levelling Up: Rise" also shone this year. The webtoon of the same name was successfully recreated as a game and became sensational. The game also became a symbolic work of Korea's IP expansion with the "Korea Game Awards."
Created by 111% of small and medium-sized domestic game companies, "Lots of Fortune" won the "Casual Game That Shined This Year." It is a strategic tower defense game with a unique name, and it is a game that has been greatly loved by users this year for its light and easily accessible gameability.
Although it is not a domestic game, Riot Games' strategic game Team Fight (hereinafter referred to as TFT), which is particularly popular in Korea, has been listed in the "Best Ongoing" category. TFT, which has recorded 80 million cumulative global users through constant updates and content expansion since its launch in 2019, has become a representative work of longevity games amid high voter turnout among Korean players.
The achievements at the Google Play Awards show that the creativity and technology of domestic games are also competitive in the global market. In particular, comfortable play support and constant content development in multi-devices across platforms are analyzed as major success factors.
