2024.11.20 PM 05:13
A Malaysian who received money from Malaysians illegally staying in Korea and brokered false refugee applications has been caught and arrested by immigration authorities.

The Ministry of Justice's special immigration investigation team at the Seoul Immigration Office said it recently arrested a Malaysian national in his 30s on charges of violating the Immigration Control Act and handed him over to the prosecution.

Mr. A is accused of taking 600,000 to 700,000 won per person in exchange for arranging false refugee applications to 140 Malaysians recruited on social media from July last year to last month.

It was investigated that A wrote down threats from his family members due to threats from loan sharks or inheritance disputes as reasons for applying for refugee status and provided data such as false lease contracts.

The investigation team explained that those who falsely applied for refugees due to A's mediation took measures such as forced eviction or revocation of their residence permit.
