The decline in the number of employed workers in September was the largest in 11 years and eight months as the construction recession dragged on.
According to the Korea Institute for Construction Industry, the number of domestic construction workers in September was 257,000, down 4.6 percent from the same period last year.
It is the first time in 11 years and 8 months that the decrease in the number of employees in the construction industry compared to the same period last year was around 4%.
Last month, the number of employed in the construction industry fell 4.3% to 2.61 million, marking the second month of decline compared to last year.
The number of employed in the construction industry continued to decline until last month after falling for the first time this year from the same period last year in May.The cold spell in the
construction job market is caused by a sharp drop in construction investment due to the prolonged downturn in the construction industry.
