The National Assembly's Legislation and Judiciary Committee has decided to hold a hearing on the 11th of next month to impeach Kang Vaccine, deputy prosecutor of the Seongnam branch of Suwon District Prosecutors' Office, and Um Hee-joon, head of the Bucheon branch of Incheon District Prosecutors' Office.
The Judiciary Committee held a plenary session and voted on a plan to investigate the impeachment case to present their impeachment motion and hold hearings.
The Democratic Party of Korea claimed that Deputy Prosecutor Kang was suspected of conducting an illegal search and seizure during the investigation into the manipulation of public opinion in the presidential election last year, and that Chief Um Ji was suspected of being a teacher of perjury to former Prime Minister Han Myung-sook.
On the other hand, the People's Power opposed the previous two prosecutor impeachment hearings, saying that the effectiveness of the impeachment is questionable due to political disputes without proof of the reason for the impeachment.
Earlier, the Democratic Party proposed the impeachment of Kim Young-chul, deputy prosecutor of the Seoul Northern District Prosecutors' Office, and Park Sang-yong, deputy prosecutor of the Suwon District Prosecutors' Office, respectively, and held impeachment hearings in August and October.
