Foreigners own domestic homes, more than half owned by Chinese

About 56% of domestic homes owned by foreigners are owned by Chinese people, and the proportion of Chinese ownership is gradually increasing.

According to statistics on foreign housing and land ownership released by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport as of the end of June this year, 95,058 domestic homes owned by foreigners were owned, up 3.9% from six months ago.

It accounts for 0.49% of all houses, with 93,414 foreigners owning homes, and by nationality, Chinese accounted for 55.5% of the total.

Then, Americans, Canadians, Taiwanese, and Australians accounted for the largest number of homes owned in Korea.

Chinese-owned homes were up 4.9% from six months ago, with Chinese buying 69% of all foreign-owned homes up for the first half of this year.

In addition, 72.8% of foreigners owned houses were in the metropolitan area, followed by 38.7% in Gyeonggi-do and 24.3% in Seoul.

The area of land owned by foreigners in Korea was 265,654,000 square meters as of the end of June, up 0.4% from the end of last year.

It is equivalent to 0.26% of the total land area, and Americans accounted for 53.3%, the most, followed by Chinese, European, and Japanese.

18.4% of the total land area held by foreigners was in Gyeonggi-do, followed by Jeollanam-do and Gyeongsangbuk-do.
