Lee Jin Sook's 2nd impeachment hearing...Public Broadcasting Corporation's appointment of directors on the day of appointment

2024.12.03 PM 08:15
The National Assembly and Chairman Lee fought over why Lee Jin-sook, chairman of the Korea Communications Commission, appointed a director of public broadcasting immediately on the first day of his inauguration.

In the second hearing of Chairman Lee's impeachment trial held at the Constitutional Court today (3rd), Acting Constitutional Court President Moon Hyung-bae said that Chairman Lee replaced visiting staff and KBS directors on the day of his inauguration, and pointed out that there is room for him to be evaluated as taking risks in his intention to take control of public broadcasting.

In response, Chairman Lee said there was an urgent need, adding that it was questionable whether it was legal to continue the appointment process until the successor came.

On the other hand, the National Assembly argued that Chairman Lee pushed ahead with the appointment of directors with the intention of taking control of public broadcasting.Acting President Moon

also pointed out whether it is reasonable to ask the National Assembly to dismiss the National Assembly by citing the other party's fault, as it may be thought that the National Assembly is also responsible for avoiding the recommendation of broadcasting members.

In response, the National Assembly responded that there were concerns that holding the National Assembly accountable for delaying the recommendation a little might not respect the autonomy of the National Assembly.
