1 million foreigners are employed for the first time.More than 30% of temporary and daily workers

This year, the number of foreign workers working in Korea exceeded 1 million for the first time.

According to the results of the 2024 Immigrant Stay and Employment Survey released by the National Statistical Office, the number of foreigners aged 15 and over in Korea was 1.561 million as of May, up 130,000 from a year ago.

Among them, the number of employed people increased by 87,000 to 1.01 million, the first time this year that the number of foreigners has exceeded 1 million.

In terms of employment by nationality, Korean-Chinese people accounted for the largest number of employed people with 341,000, followed by Vietnam with 123,000.

About half of the employed workers work in the mining and manufacturing industries, and temporary and daily jobs were 329,000, accounting for 34.4% of wage jobs.

The average monthly wage level of foreign wage workers was the highest with 489,000 people in the range of 2 million to 3 million won, followed by more than 3 million won with 354,000.
