Professor Lee Sang-min of Pohang University of Science and Technology has been published in Nature, the world's most prestigious academic journal in science, with David Baker, a professor at the University of Washington who received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry this year.
The two professors explained that they used artificial intelligence and AI to create a new gene therapy platform that mimics the complex and sophisticated genetic structure of viruses.
Professor Lee said he hopes the research will contribute to innovative developments in various medical and life fields such as gene therapy drugs as well as next-generation vaccines.
He added that with the development of AI, the era of designing and assembling artificial proteins that humans want has opened.
Professor Lee worked together as a postdoctoral researcher in Professor Baker's lab for two years and nine months from February 2021, and he was appointed to Pohang University of Science and Technology in January this year.
