GS Engineering & Construction opened the country's first land salmon farm in Gijang-gun, Busan, and began operation.
The farm, which was built inside Pukyong National University's Fisheries Science Research Institute, allows up to 500 tons of salmon per year, and plans to ship farmed salmon from the fourth quarter of 2026.
This fish farm is the first facility in Korea to cultivate salmon on land rather than at sea through closed circulation filtration water treatment technology, and it is expected to produce Atlantic salmon in Korea, which has been entirely dependent on imports.
GS E&C signed a 'Business Agreement to Create Smart Western Cluster' with Busan City in July 2020 and participated in the project as a private investor through its subsidiary 'Echo Aquafarm', which was established in the same year.
