Rome, Italy, which will be busy ahead of Christmas next week, is busy preparing for another religious event.

This is because the holy year of jubilee is coming back from the Catholic Church after 25 years.

Reporter Son Jong-yoon met with Cardinal Yoo Yeon-sik and heard more details about the jubilee.

People are busy passing by the screen built throughout the city.

On one side of the road, the underground that someone dug up is clearly visible, and various equipment and materials are also visible.

Last fall, this is the view of downtown Rome and major tourist attractions that were under construction.

The reason why Rome was so busy is because it is about to return for its first regular jubilee in 25 years.

Jubilee is a holy year of special spiritual grace to believers,

It means so much that Catholics from all over the world come to Rome.

Rome spent 4 billion euros and about 5.9 trillion won on repairing subway stations, escalators, and major tourist attractions for tourists and pilgrims.

[Antonella / Roman Citizen] This city is beautiful, but it will become more beautiful. Of course, there are a lot of inconveniences, but you have to be patient. There are a lot of places under construction, but I think this new look will benefit us all in the end.]

I visited the Roman Vatican to see what jubilee meant to the Catholic Church and met with the Cardinal in person.

[Yu Heung-sik / Cardinal/Pope Holy Minister: The gates of St Peter's Basilica will open on December 24, 2024, beginning the jubilee at 6 p.m. The theme is hope. Hope is what we expect and hope for and strive for a better future. In short, it's a festival for everyone in the world.]

The cardinal predicted that about 100,000 pilgrims would visit Rome a day during the jubilee period.

[Yu Heung-sik / Cardinal/Pope Holy Father: There are a lot of people who come to Rome to celebrate jubilee, but there are also people who just come and participate in various events. Our projections are that at least 100,000 pilgrims will flock to Rome a day.

This regular jubilee, which has returned for the first time in 25 years, will last from the 24th to January 6, 2026.
