Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education "Prospects" on 'AI Textbooks are Educational Materials' Regulation Bill

The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education has given an opinion in favor of a bill to use artificial intelligence digital textbooks and AIDT as educational materials, not textbooks, to be used next year.

Rep. Ko Min-jung of the Democratic Party of Korea, a member of the National Assembly's Education Committee, said she supports the revision of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, which defines AIDT as educational materials.

The Metropolitan Office of Education explained why it is in favor of autonomous selection and use of schools as educational materials until the educational effect of AIDT is proven.

The Ministry of Education plans to introduce AIDT in some grades of elementary, middle and high schools from March next year, saying it will strengthen its digital capabilities, but opposition is also high due to students' excessive immersion in digital devices.

The revision passed the National Assembly's Legislative and Judiciary Committee on the 17th and is set to vote at the plenary session.
