Ahead of the New Year, Russia and Ukraine exchanged more than 300 prisoners through the mediation of the United Arab Emirates.
On the 30th local time, Russia's Defense Ministry said 150 Russian prisoners had returned to their homeland through negotiations, and 150 Ukrainian prisoners had been repatriated.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said 189 soldiers, border guards and two civilians had returned through the prisoner swap.
No specific explanation has yet been given as to why the numbers revealed by the two sides differ.
New Year's Eve, Dec. 31, is celebrated as an important holiday for both Russia and Ukraine.
Ukraine says 3,956 people, including civilians, have returned from Russia through prisoner exchanges so far since the outbreak of the war.
