Lee Jae-myung "Raised the Depositor Protection Limit to 100 Million, Expeditedly"

2024.10.02 오전 11:28
Lee Jae-myung, chairman of the main opposition Minjoo Party of Korea, said he will expedite a bill to raise the deposit protection limit from the current 50 million won to 100 million won.

Lee told the Supreme Council that financial market instability and risks are extremely high and delinquency rates are soaring, but the possibility of a "bank run," or a large withdrawal of deposits, must also be considered.

The ruling party has not responded to the Democratic Party's argument to expedite the increase in the deposit protection limit, stressing that if it continues to be sluggish, it will push ahead even by designating it as a fast-track agenda and a "fast track."

Lee also pointed out that the reason for the court's ruling was that former Yongsan Police Chief Lee Im-jae was sentenced to imprisonment in the first trial for poor response to the Itaewon disaster, and that he was a man who could have prevented it if he had fulfilled his duty of care in his place.

He also argued that the public does not sympathize with whether the responsibility for the people who are really responsible is being identified, and that the reality should be clarified and the responsibility should be clearly held.
