On the first day of early voting for the October 16 by-elections, the turnout in Jeollanam-do, where opposition candidates competed, was 24.46%, higher than in other regions.
According to the National Election Commission's first-day tally, 300,000 out of 8.64 million electors cast their ballots, recording 3.55% of the early voting rate.
3.16 percent of voters cast their ballots in Seoul, where the superintendent by-election is held, 9.24 percent in Busan, where the mayor of Geumjeong-gu is held, and 14.62 percent in Incheon, where the Ganghwa county by-election is held.
In addition, Gokseong, Jeollanam-do, which holds re-election for county governor, showed a 24.06 percent early voting rate and Yeonggwang 24.68 percent early voting rate.
