Chung Hee-yong, a member of the People's Power, proposed a bill on the promotion and development of the artificial intelligence industry to create the institutional foundation necessary for fostering and developing the AI industry.
The bill focused on establishing a "national control tower" by establishing the Artificial Intelligence Committee and the National Artificial Intelligence Center, preparing quick and efficient support measures through systematic deliberation and resolution, and enhancing national competitiveness by training professionals.
It also includes the development and dissemination of artificial intelligence technology that can be used safely and conveniently by all citizens, including local residents and the elderly in rural areas.
According to the 2024 global AI index analysis, Korea's AI national capability is sixth, but its operating environment indicators, such as related legislation, are only 35th, Chung said, stressing that he will do his best to support legislation and policy to leap from AI competition to a leading country.
