Ministry of Foreign Affairs "The absence of the memorial service was due to the lack of agreement, including the eulogy."

The Korean government said that the Japanese government did not attend the Sado mine memorial ceremony and held a separate memorial ceremony because the Japanese eulogy and others did not meet the level of agreement promised when registering the Sado mine.

Regarding the Japanese government's expression of regret for missing the memorial service, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed once again that holding its own memorial service is an expression of our government's firm determination not to compromise with the Japanese side on past affairs.

At the same time, he explained that the Korean government's absence from the Japanese memorial service was an important consideration that matters related to the memorial service, such as the contents of the Japanese memorial service, did not reach the level of agreement when registering the Sado mine in the first place.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs' explanation seems to emphasize that this is not the only reason for not attending the memorial service, as it has turned into a battle of truth that the Japanese government has not visited Yasukuni shrine since the inauguration of the upper house of parliament in connection with the history of Ikui or a political officer sent as a representative of the memorial service.
