Choi Tae-won, chairman of the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry, suggested that the two chambers of commerce plan a special program to reflect on the past Korea-Japan economic cooperation and present a vision for the future 100 years to mark the 60th anniversary of the Korea-Japan diplomatic summit next year.

In his opening remarks at the 13th Korea-Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry Chairman's Meeting in Osaka, Japan, Chairman Choi said, "We need to reflect on the friendship between the two countries and seek a path for future-oriented cooperation."Ken Kobayashi
, chairman of the Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, also stressed the need for the two countries to shift their perspectives from competition to cooperation in the face of common challenges such as low birthrate and aging supply chain, saying next year marks the 60th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between Korea and Japan.

It has been about a year and five months since the Busan meeting in June last year that the presidents of the two countries met.

At the meeting, the two countries sought promising areas of economic cooperation that could be led by the private sector, including energy, supply chains and advanced technologies, and discussed models of regional cooperation to promote them.

The meeting of the chairmen of the Korea-Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry was suspended since 2018 due to the Korea-Japan trade conflict and the COVID-19 crisis, but resumed last year, six years later.

Next year, the 14th Korea-Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry will be held in Gyeongju, Korea.
