Lee Chang-yong, the governor of the Bank of Korea, who caused a stir by arguing that a regional proportional selection system should be introduced for prestigious universities such as Seoul National University, said it is not the fairest to select college freshmen based on their grades.

The comments were made during a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Choi Sang-mok, who declined to say whether he would cut interest rates 10 days away.

Governor Lee Chang-yong was the first governor of the Bank of Korea to visit the Sejong Government Complex and met with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Strategy and Finance Choi Sang-mok.

Governor Lee said, "As the two pillars of the macroeconomy, it is an adaptation to the demands of change in the times that require information exchange and policy cooperation."

Deputy Prime Minister Choi said it was the first time the Bank of Korea governor visited the Ministry of Economy and Finance and gave meaning to it as a "historic event."

Both economic chiefs declined to comment on the direction of monetary policy, which is just 10 days away.

Deputy Prime Minister Choi only mentioned that "it is the unique domain of the Bank of Korea," and Governor Lee said, "I will not comment today."

When asked about polarization and centralization of Gangnam, Governor Lee poured out his thoughts as if determined.

He also said that people living in Gangnam should think about whether children are happy.
