According to a survey of 1,000 consumers who have used coffee shops by the Korea Consumer Agency in the last six months, 74% said that coffee or beverage sales are expensive.
The appropriate prices for consumers were 2,635 won for Americano, 3,323 won for cafe latte, and 3,564 won for caramel macchiato, but the average selling price of 25 coffee shops was up to 32% higher and more than 1,000 won higher.
In addition, a total of 2,160 consumer consultations related to coffee shops have been received by the Korea Consumer Agency over the past five years, of which 44% cannot be changed or canceled after ordering.
Accordingly, the Korea Consumer Agency surveyed smart order apps of 21 coffee shops, including Starbucks and Twosome Place, and 15 places, more than 70% of them did not cancel or change orders in the app.
The Korea Consumer Agency recommended that these companies come up with order cancellation functions and pre-notification procedures.
In addition, companies that use only oz or fl. oz units that most consumers do not know about will be recommended to improve, and cases that do not indicate legal units will be shared with relevant ministries.
