The number of people who "just take a break" without working or looking for a job has increased by more than 240,000 in a year.
According to the statistics of the National Statistical Office, 35.6% of the population aged 15 or older, or 16.21 million, were economically inactive, up 48,000 from a year ago.
By activity status, lyrics were the most common with 36.8%, while enrollment or enrollment was 20% and 15.8% said they took a break.
In particular, the number of "rested" people increased by 245,000 from a year ago, accounting for 15.8% of the economically inactive population, up 1.4 percentage points.
By age, the number of people in their 60s increased by 80,000, the number of people in their 70s increased by 65,000, and the number of people in their 20s increased by 54,000.
Statistics Korea said the increase in the "rested" population in their 20s appears to have been affected by companies' preference for experienced workers.
The reason for taking a break was different by age, with 30.8% of young people saying it was difficult to find a job they wanted, and the most common response was that they were not feeling well except for young people.
31.9% of respondents said that the main consideration of job seekers was working conditions rather than wage levels.
