Cold weather in Korea...Sales fell by 110,000 and young people 'directly hit'

2024.11.18 AM 09:56
Due to sluggish domestic demand, the employment situation of salespeople has deteriorated to the level of the COVID-19 crisis.

According to the National Statistical Office's tally, the average number of monthly sales workers was 2,518,000 until last month, down 110,000 from the same period last year.

The decrease is similar to that of 2022, when an average of 94,000 people per month fell due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

Sales workers are on a steady decline due to the increase in online transactions and the expansion of kiosks, but the decline seems to have increased due to sluggish domestic demand.

In particular, nearly half of the 110,000 sales workers reduced this year, or 50,000, were young people aged 15 to 29.

As domestic demand drags on, jobs for young people with relatively short working hours and low wages appear to be being hit first.
