A so-called "entertainment detective" who secretly informed female clients of their husbands or boyfriends' records of their access to prostitution businesses for money was sentenced to a suspended prison sentence.

The Incheon District Court's Criminal Chamber 5 (Judge Hong Joon-seo) announced on the 6th that it sentenced A (40), who was indicted on charges of violating the Act on Promotion of Information and Communication Network Utilization and Information Protection, to one year in prison and two years of probation. He also ordered 160 hours of community service and an additional 23 million won.

A was put on trial from March to November last year on charges of informing female clients of their husbands or boyfriends' records of access to prostitution and pocketing 140 million won. About 2,000 clients asked A to inquire.

He committed the crime together at the suggestion of B, an acquaintance who has experience running a prostitution business in the past.

When B posted an advertisement on an online community dedicated to women, saying, "If you pay 50,000 won per case, I will check your man's access to a prostitution business," A received and managed the request fee through his account. Mr. B secured personal information through an application in which operators of prostitution businesses organize and share customer access records and personal information.

"If you look at various evidences, including the details of the deposit account for the request fee, you are found guilty (of leaking the secrets of others you learned through the information and communication network)," the court said. "We considered the fact that we did not lead the crime."
