"A police officer who attempted to set himself on fire mentions 'bullying in the workplace'"

It was found that an incumbent police officer who was rescued and treated after attempting to set himself on fire in his vehicle complained of his immediate superior's bullying at work.

Kim Sung-hoe of the Democratic Party of Korea confirmed to the family of superintendent A from the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency and explained that superintendent A talked about the conflict with his boss as a reason for the extreme attempt.

An official from lawmaker Kim's office said in a phone call with YTN that superintendent A expressed his distress to his acquaintances around him, saying he was told to "get out of the working department" or pointed out his work such as writing a report.

He also added that the National Police Agency's parliamentary audit tomorrow (11th) will investigate facts such as whether there was any workplace harassment in relation to police officer A.

In response, an official from the National Police Agency explained that Superintendent A's health is not good yet, and that they will wait and see the recovery trend and decide whether to investigate.

Earlier on the 22nd of last month, superintendent A was taken to a hospital with burns after setting fire to a vehicle near his home in Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul.
