Around 6:30 p.m., a report was received that a fire broke out in the basement of a 16-story residential and commercial complex in Soongui-dong, Incheon.
Thirty minutes later, at around 7 p.m., the fire department issued the first stage of response to mobilize all the personnel and equipment of the competent fire department and started extinguishing the fire.
The big fire was put out at around 8:15 p.m., followed by the complete extinguishing of the fire at 9:30 p.m., three hours later.
A total of 21 people were injured and taken to the hospital, including inhaling smoke from the fire, and three of them were seriously injured.
Many of the hospital's transferors came from nursing homes on the fourth floor of the building.
This is because there were many elderly people who were unable to move, and the fire authorities explained that they rescued a total of 30 people in nursing homes alone.
Earlier, the health authorities said the total number of casualties was about 40, and the fire department explained in a later notice that the actual transfer of patients was 21 and the rest included the number of nursing home residents who were transferred to other hospitals.
There was a mart on the first floor of the building where the fire broke out, an office on the second floor, and a sauna on the third floor, which is a multi-use facility, and it was found that everyone here was evacuated.
In addition, more than five floors of the building were apartments, but it was reported that the smoke did not go up further, so it was not a situation to evacuate.
The fire is believed to have started in the parking lot on the first basement floor.
The fire department explained that three vehicles were burned, but not all of them were electric vehicles.
Fire authorities plan to investigate the exact cause of the fire and the extent of the damage at dawn.
