The Korea Organ Tissue Donation Institute announced on the 27th that Ahn Myung-ok (70) donated liver due to brain-dead organ donation at Korea University Anam Hospital on the 30th of last month.
Ahn collapsed unconscious at home in July and was taken to a hospital, but failed to regain consciousness.
His physical condition gradually deteriorated, and he was eventually diagnosed with a brain death on October 13, and Ahn donated liver after the consent of his family.
In 2021, Ahn reportedly told his family, "I want to leave after practicing beautiful sharing that saves someone at the end of my life."
Born in Jeongeup, North Jeolla Province, the first of eight siblings, Ahn worked as a seamstress when he was young and recently worked as a building cleaner.
Ahn's son, Song Jin-yong, said, "I feel sorry and sad that my mother seems to have left after suffering," and said, "Thank you and I love you."
