Fair Trade Commission "Reviews on 'Unfair Terms' of Wedding Hall"

2024.12.03 AM 01:43
Regarding the YTN [Fact Tracking] report, which deals with the fact that marriage-related companies are engaged, such as the situation of "pushing work" between families, the competition authorities have decided to consider investigating the unfair terms and conditions of the wedding hall.

An official from the Fair Trade Commission said in a call with the [fact-tracking] production team that infringing on consumer rights by restricting options can be judged as unfair terms and conditions.

In particular, he emphasized that in the process of investigating wedding halls, if consumer damage is serious and unfair practices are found to be prevalent, relief measures and a system to prevent recurrence can be prepared.

In response to a question from the office of Kim Byung-ki of the Democratic Party of Korea regarding the [fact-tracking] report, the FTC explained that unfair terms and conditions such as wedding halls and marriage agencies are being improved through individual reports, civil complaints, and ex officio investigations.

He also stressed that he plans to continue to communicate with the industry to check that the revised terms and conditions are being properly implemented.

Rep. Kim Byung-ki said, "Unfair transactions by marriage-related companies go beyond just inflicting financial damage, turning the marriage preparation process into a nightmare," and pointed out that periodic checks and regulatory measures are needed to restore fairness in the wedding market.

Earlier in November, the YTN investigative reporting program [Fact Tracking] filed a complaint about the wedding industry's overuse of power, including the circumstances of wedding halls and photography companies involved in family relationships such as parents and children, and sought a solution.
