Carbon Hydrofluorocarbons with Great Greenhouse Effects to Be Staged Down from 2027

2024.12.18 PM 02:28
The government has decided to limit the use of hydrogen fluoride (HFCs) used in refrigerants in stages to reduce greenhouse gases.

Hydrogen fluoride is a synthetic substance used in refrigerating facilities refrigerants, building insulation foaming agents, and fire extinguishing facilities, and its impact on global warming (GWP) is 23 times greater than that of carbon dioxide.

Starting with home refrigerators in 2027, it plans to reduce hydrogen fluoride emissions by 20 million tons by 2035 by converting hydrogen fluoride into substances with low greenhouse effects such as butane and propane.

In addition, we decided to prepare a system to replace new refrigerants by recycling refrigerants in facilities that have expired.

The Ministry of Environment said it plans to comprehensively pursue new refrigerant development research and financial support requested by the industry to ensure this transition goes smoothly.
