Former U.S. Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump reiterated that it is better to get along with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, who has nuclear weapons.

Former President Trump made the remarks in a speech at the Detroit Economic Club in Michigan on the 10th local time, citing the so-called "nuclear button" war with Chairman Kim during his tenure.

Former President Trump reiterated that Chairman Kim called and met after the nuclear button war at the time, and emphasized, "I got along well with him," and "It's good to get along with North Korea, not bad."

"There are a lot of nuclear weapons in North Korea, but we got along well and you had no problems. No one has been threatened since then," he explained.

Former President Trump also claimed on the previous day that during his tenure, Chairman Kim had called and suggested talks after exchanging harsh words with a "nuclear weapons launch button."

In his acceptance speech for the Republican National Convention's presidential nomination in July, he said, "It's good to get along with someone who has a lot of nuclear weapons," adding, "If we come back to power, I will get along with him (Kim Jong-un)."

Former President Trump said of Chinese President Xi Jinping on the same day, "I want to say that I am a good friend. However, the friendship was broken because of what is called the Chinese virus (COVID-19), he said. "But I have always had a good relationship with him. He is strong and smart."
