Chinese authorities have reaffirmed the principle of not ruling out the use of force against Taiwan.

"We are willing to do our best to achieve peaceful unification, but we will never commit to giving up the use of force," Chen Binhua, a spokesman for China's Taiwan Affairs Office, told a regular briefing.

However, he stressed that the use of force is aimed at outside force interference and minority separatists trying to achieve Taiwanese independence, and that it is absolutely not aimed at the majority of Taiwanese compatriots. As for the so-called "two-state theory" proposed by President

Lichtinger, he criticized it as "inciting a hostile confrontation between the two sides and deliberately raising tensions in the situation," adding, "It only undermines the interests of the people of Taiwan."

Regarding U.S. arms sales to Taiwan, he argued that "no matter how outside forces intervene, if they act at risk, they will surely destroy themselves."

Regarding the suggestion of China's trade retaliation against Taiwan, he stressed that there were no procedural problems, saying, "We are in compliance with the World Trade Organization's anti-discrimination principle and are in accordance with China's relevant regulations."
