The heads of NATO, NATO, the European Union and the EU have criticized North Korea's dispatch of troops to Russia as a significant act of escalating tensions in the war in Ukraine and a serious threat to European security and global peace.
NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutter and EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen emphasized this during a business luncheon in Brussels, Belgium, on the 29th local time, a joint press release said.
The two sides also noted that "we discussed the dogmatism of authoritarian states that are deepening on the international stage, and these countries use a number of means, including politics, economy, technology, and military, to challenge common interests, values, and democratic principles."
This is interpreted as a circumvention of China, where both NATO and the EU are wary.
In addition, the two sides agreed to launch a "high-level task force" between NATO and the EU to counter deepening threats and challenges.
This luncheon is the first official meeting since Secretary-General Rutter's inauguration on the 1st.
In addition, there seems to be a characteristic to discuss ways to strengthen NATO-EU cooperation ahead of the US presidential election on the 5th of next month, as well as pending issues related to Ukraine.
