The death toll from heavy rains in southeastern Spain has risen to 72.

According to AFP news agency, Spanish rescue authorities announced that 72 people had died in heavy rain as of 4 p.m. local time on the 30th.

Seventy people were killed in the worst-hit Valencia region and two in nearby Castile La Mancha.

Spain's weather service said between 150 and 200 liters of rain fell per square meter in two hours in some areas.

In the Andalusian region in particular, four times as much rain fell in a single day during the month of October.

Heavy rains have blocked most railways, highways and skyways until this day, cutting off electricity to more than 150,000 homes.

Neighboring countries have expressed their willingness to support Spain, which suffered from the disaster.

"Morocco, Italy, France, Portugal, Turkiye, Czech Republic, Greece and Slovenia have provided the means and resources of rescue," Spain's interior ministry said.
