NATO chief "will cooperate no matter who wins U.S. presidential election"

2024.11.05 AM 05:09
NATO's head has promised to cooperate with the president-elect regardless of the outcome of the U.S. presidential election.

"NATO will work with Kamala Harris and with Donald Trump," NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutter told a joint news conference with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in Berlin on the 4th local time.

"The alliance will remain united," Rutter said, predicting that "no matter who wins the presidential election, we will continue to support NATO for the benefit of the United States."

Former President Trump questioned the NATO system over the fairness of sharing defense costs during his past tenure and mentioned the U.S. withdrawal.

In addition, he made remarks earlier this year during the presidential campaign to encourage Russia to attack NATO members if they do not pay enough for their defense.

As a result, NATO members fear the alliance could be in crisis if former President Trump wins.
