A senior U.S. cyber authority official said there was an unprecedented flood of disinformation during the U.S. presidential election.
Jen Easterly, director of the Cyber Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) under the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, said a day before the presidential election, "There is so much disinformation spreading this year that there has never been before."
"In particular, hostile countries are actively spreading and amplifying false information on a larger scale than in the past," he said. "We are exposed to a huge amount of false information and will continue to do so."
However, he added, "There were small incidents such as damage to ballot boxes or small-scale cyberattacks during the early voting period, but there were no incidents that could have a significant impact on the outcome of the presidential election."
Ahead of Election Day, fake news about the election, which was decorated as reported by major news media, spread on social media X and others.
