U.S. President-elect Donald Trump, who has denied climate change, plans to withdraw from an international agreement to prevent global warming in his second term, the New York Times reported on the 8th local time.
The New York Times said Trump's transition team has already prepared executive orders and presidential proclamations that can be implemented immediately after taking office, and that it will withdraw from the Paris Climate Change Convention.
The Paris Climate Change Convention is an agreement to curb average global surface temperatures from rising more than 2 degrees Celsius compared to pre-industrial times and make practical efforts to ensure that all countries are "zero" greenhouse gas emissions.
The United States ratified the Paris Convention in 2016 under Barack Obama's administration, but Trump announced his withdrawal from the convention in June 2017, during his first term in office, and later formally notified the United Nations of his departure in November 2019.
But as soon as President Joe Biden took office in January 2021, he ordered his re-joining of the Paris Convention as one of the first steps.
Trump is also expected to resume permits to build liquefied natural gas export facilities, which President Biden put on hold in January.
Earlier, President Biden suspended permits for the construction of new facilities for the time being, saying he needed time to study the impact of LNG exports on climate change, the economy and national security.
