Taiwan Media "Trump Could Attend TSMC U.S. Plant's Completion Ceremony"

President-elect Trump is likely to attend the completion ceremony of the Arizona plant in the U.S., set up by Taiwan's TSMC, the world's largest foundry, according to the Free Times and other Taiwanese media.

According to sources, Trump will attend the completion ceremony of Plant 1 (P1) in Phoenix, Arizona, early next month.

Apple CEO Tim Cook, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, AMD CEO Lisa Su and TSMC Founder Jang Jun-Moo are also expected to attend.

The source said the event could bring out Trump's message on low-interest loans related to U.S. semiconductor law and tariffs related to TSMC.

TSMC will start formal production of 12-inch (305mm) wafers with 4-nano technology after the completion ceremony of its Arizona plant early next month.

Earlier, the Biden administration enacted the Semiconductor Act in 2022 to provide a total of $52.7 billion (about 73.5 trillion won) over five years, including $39 billion in production subsidies and $13.2 billion in R&D subsidies to semiconductor companies investing in the United States.

As a result, major semiconductor companies such as Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix, and TSMC, as well as U.S. companies, will receive subsidies in exchange for building factories in the U.S.

However, Trump criticized the semiconductor law during the presidential election, arguing that he should impose very high tariffs on semiconductors so that foreign companies can come to the United States and set up factories for free.
