Russia has said it will build an artificial intelligence and AI development alliance with BRICS member countries such as China and India.

It is a full-fledged challenge to the U.S. hegemony of AI technology.

Sberbank, a state-owned company leading the development of artificial intelligence and AI in Russia.

Russian President Vladimir Putin attended the conference organized by the company.

In his speech, Putin said he would build an AI alliance with the Confederation of Emerging economies, BRICS.

[Vladimir Putin / President of Russia] I am sure that the creation of an international coalition of AI associations and development agencies by BRICS countries and other interested countries will give great impetus to cooperation in the field of AI.]

Russia is one of the 10 countries in the world that are developing their own Generative AI.

However, in the field of AI, a battleground for high-tech technology in the 21st century, Russia lags far behind major Western countries.

This is because Western sanctions that followed the war in Ukraine have been a big hit.

Talents are also having difficulty getting graphics processing devices and GPUs that are essential for AI implementation.

President Putin's AI alliance initiative is interpreted as a way to overcome this reality.

[Vladimir Putin / Russian President] Russia should be a world leader not only in design but also in the scale of implementing and integrating artificial intelligence in all areas of our lives.]

China, which is leading in AI-related technology patents, and India, an IT powerhouse, are also participating in BRICS.

If these countries cooperate in earnest, the U.S.-led competition for AI hegemony could change.

In addition, non-member countries such as Serbia and Indonesia said they would join.

Countries participating in the alliance plan to conduct joint research on AI technology and regulation together in the future.
