In the eastern German city of Magdeburg, a car drove into the Christmas market yesterday afternoon local time, causing multiple casualties.
Local media, citing police, said at least one person was killed and several others were injured.
Magdeburg city authorities also announced many injuries, without giving exact figures.
It also said the driver was arrested by police and appeared to be a deliberate attack.
"A large-scale operation is under way and the Christmas market is closed," police said in a social media post.
In Germany, 13 people were killed and more than 60 injured in 2016 when a truck rushed toward a Christmas market set up in central Berlin.
The suspect, identified as an Islamic extremist, was killed days later in a gunfight in Italy.
Germany's Interior Ministry said late last month that there were no specific signs of danger to this year's Christmas market, but it urged people to remain vigilant.
