Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on the 21st local time that he met in Ukraine with William Burns, the director of the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency and the CIA.
"Burn's last visit to Ukraine as CIA director," Zelenskyy said on Telegram, releasing a photo of him shaking hands with Burns.
It did not say when Burns specifically visited Ukraine and met with President Zelensky.
It is unusual for President Zelensky and Director Burns to be made public.
The last time the meeting between the two was known was in July last year when U.S. officials said Burns had secretly visited Ukraine.
President Zelensky said he had met with Burns several times and was "grateful for his help."
"In general, such encounters are not publicly reported. "All meetings in Ukraine, other European countries, the United States, and other regions took place without official information."
Director Burns is about to leave office.
This is because President-elect Donald Trump, who will take office as U.S. president on January 20 next year, has appointed John Letcliffe as the new CIA director. The
Joe Biden administration has been the most important military and financial supporter of Ukraine under Russia's offensive.
The U.S. has also reportedly regularly shared military information with Ukraine, AFP said.
After taking office next month, Trump is expected to push for a swift end to Ukraine.
