The Financial Times reported on the 24th local time that Korean companies are concerned about the adverse effects of the lack of diplomatic response as impeachment continues ahead of the launch of the second Donald Trump administration. The media outlet
pointed out that while Trump is threatening to impose massive tariffs and review subsidies against allies, South Korea has no centrality in its policy to respond to Trump due to political turmoil.
A business official who invested billions of dollars in the United States under the Biden administration said, "There is no one in the government to speak for us," adding, "It's like being held hostage."
Another official said Seoul's diplomatic efforts were "absent" after the emergency.
Trump, who is sensitive to the U.S. trade deficit, is also raising the possibility that he could target South Korea, which recorded a record $28.7 billion trade surplus with the U.S. in the first half of this year.
