The Mexican president responded with a proposal to rename the Gulf of Mexico, surrounded by five Mexican states, five U.S. states, and Cuba, to change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to "US only."Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum
said in a regular press conference on the morning of the 8th local time, "Why don't we turn North America into 'Mexico America'?" with an image of a 17th-century old map on a large screen. "Isn't that great to hear?"
President Sheinbaum continued, "The name Gulf of Mexico is a name recognized by the United Nations," and emphasized, "The name Gulf of Mexico existed in the 17th century, is used internationally, and is confirmed even before the creation of the United States."
This is the Mexican government's response to Trump's earlier remarks that he would change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the United States alone.
President Sheinbaum also stressed that "Trump probably has misinformation that Felipe Calderon is still the president of Mexico," regarding Trump's claim that Mexico was dominated by drug cartels.
Former President Calderon, who served from 2006 to 2012, pushed for the so-called war on drugs while in office, but failed to produce any significant results, leaving only side effects such as a surge in murder crimes.
The security chief, who was a close aide to former President Calderon, was also sentenced to heavy punishment in the United States for misconduct, such as taking back money from cartels and turning a blind eye to crimes.
